Cold Solutions Unveils KSh 7.5 Billion Investment in Kenyan Cold Storage Infrastructure



Cold Solutions, a key player in temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics, declared a substantial KSh 7.5 billion (USD 70 million) investment in the construction of cutting-edge, temperature-controlled cold storage facilities in Kenya. This significant venture will see the establishment of these facilities in Nairobi and Mombasa, with the flagship facility to be erected at the Tatu City Special Economic Zone in Nairobi.

Situated on six acres at Tatu City, Kiambu, Kenya, the impressive 15,000 sqm grade 'A' cold storage complex is poised to be East Africa's largest, most advanced, and efficient facility of its kind. This high-caliber construction encompasses features such as top-notch quality, substantial size, elevated hook height, dock levelers, extensive lay-down areas, and specialized facilities like cold storage.

Leveraging a blend of local and international specialists, Cold Solutions Kenya aims to operationalize the Tatu City facility within 12 to 18 months. The facility's flexible design caters to diverse temperature ranges (+26 to -40 C) and accommodates various product categories, including fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, meats, poultry, and frozen foods.

Strategic Partnership:
Cold Solutions Kenya Limited operates under the umbrella of the ARCH Cold Chain Solutions East Africa Fund, a private equity fund guided by ARCH Emerging Markets Partners Limited. Renowned for their deep experience in emerging markets, private equity, and asset management, ARCH is committed to adding value to investments with a risk-adjusted approach.

The Cold Chain Solutions East Africa Fund, spearheaded by ARCH, envisions developing large-scale energy-efficient cold chain solutions and end-to-end logistics across East Africa, covering Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The fund plans to construct up to 10 state-of-the-art temperature-controlled cold storage warehouses, investing a minimum of KSh 21.4 billion (US$200m) in the region.
